Ixchel
The Moon Goddess

Illustrated Book Design | Visual Storytelling

This illustrated book is a tribute to Ixchel, one of the most powerful and revered goddesses in Maya culture — goddess of the moon, medicine, love, fertility, and water. The project explores her mythological story, symbolic power, and connection to natural cycles, femininity, and healing.

I aimed to capture the spiritual and emotional essence of Ixchel through a visual storytelling approach, blending delicate watercolor techniques with bold symbolic elements such as bones, snakes, lunar phases, and sacred natural motifs. Each page honors her duality strength and softness, life and death, love and loss.

Inspired by the legend of Ixchel and her eternal love for the Sun god Itzamna, this book retells the myth with a poetic and emotional tone. The visuals guide readers through her transformation from a living goddess to the eternal moon, watching over the world and influencing its cycles.

This book is not just a collection of illustrations — it’s a celebration of culture, myth, and memory, rooted in the rich heritage of the Maya civilization.
